All charges filed against Texas Reporter Media CEO and Big Bend Times publisher David Flash, who also publishes the Brazos Guardian, have been dismissed, bringing an end to a series of politically motivated prosecutions in Jeff Davis County.
The dismissals cover multiple cases that Flash has long described as baseless retaliation for his work as a journalist:
- Disorderly Conduct Charge — stemming from a June 27, 2025, incident in which a sheriff’s deputy forcibly removed and detained Flash during a public meeting.
- Terroristic Threat Charge — dropped earlier in the process.
- Harassment Charge — dismissed.
- Traffic Citation — for allegedly “failing to drive on the right side of the roadway,” issued after Flash said he was pulled over and threatened. That citation was dismissed with prejudice, preventing it from being refiled.
Flash said none of the charges ever had merit and pointed to them as part of a broader pattern of harassment by local officials.
“The facts were never on their side, and now the court record reflects that,” Flash said. “I appreciate those in the press who covered these matters and hope they will now update the public with the full story: all charges have been thrown out.”
Flash characterized the prosecutions as part of “a pattern of baseless, retaliatory actions — a political prosecution designed to silence me and hinder my work as a journalist.”
With the dismissals, Flash said he remains focused on continuing his work as publisher of Big Bend Times, Texas Reporter, and the Brazos Guardian, emphasizing the importance of an independent press in holding local officials accountable.
