College Station police officer has been arrested and terminated following allegations of theft as a public servant. The officer, identified as De’Kedrick Anderson, stands accused of stealing money from a person he had arrested earlier that day.
The incident came to light on the morning of July 15th when a concerned citizen contacted the College Station Police Department to report the theft. The citizen claimed that the arrestee had a sum of money on him during the booking process, but upon further inspection, approximately half of the money was missing.
Upon receiving the report, the on-duty supervisor initiated an investigation into the matter. Evidence collected during the investigation strongly implicated Officer Anderson in the theft, leading to his termination. Subsequently, on July 17th, a warrant was issued for his arrest on the charge of “Theft as a Public Servant $100-$750,” which is classified as a Class A misdemeanor due to Anderson’s status as a public servant.
Yesterday, on July 18th, Anderson was apprehended and charged with “THEFT AS A PUBLIC SERVANT,” a Class A misdemeanor carrying penalties of up to one year in jail, a fine of up to $4,000, or both.
Expressing their dismay and embarrassment over Anderson’s actions, the College Station Police Department assured the public that such behavior would not be tolerated. The department emphasized their commitment to upholding a high standard of conduct among their officers and acknowledged the erosion of trust caused by this incident. They extended their gratitude to the citizen who reported the theft and apologized to the victim. Additionally, they pledged to continue working tirelessly to regain the community’s trust.
Chief Billy Couch stated, “Anderson in no way represents the caliber of the men and women who serve our community.” The department urged community members to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity promptly, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in ensuring public safety.
